By car:

On the A1 motorway (from Rome and Milan): exit at Firenze Scandicci, take the freeway called FI-PI-LI (Firenze-Pisa-Livorno) and exit at Ginestra Fiorentina Follow the directions to Montespertoli, then after around 10 km before reaching the town of Montespertoli (you will see a little tower on the left) turn left following the indications for Tavarnelle/Lucardo/Siena and "Museo di Arte Sacra" Carry on for about 800 m then turn left again down the road as indicated on our sign: "Agriturismo Le Fonti A San Giorgio" (the sign is brown).

Drive down until you reach the stop, continue ahead following the indication to "Museo di Arte Sacra". After 1 km turn left at the church:Chiesa di San Piero in Mercato here is the Museum) as indicated by our brown sign "Agriturismo Le Fonti A San Giorgio."

Continue for 2.5 km until you reach another sign, turn right entering onto the road: Via Colle San Lorenzo. After 1.5 km (non-asphalted), you will reach Le Fonti A San Giorgio.

Where we are

We are in the countryside, perched on a small hill 250 metres above sea level. The last two kilometres arriving here are not asphalted, the road twists and turns among the panoramic forests of oaks, vineyards and olives.

The nearest town of Montespertoli is five minutes drive away. It is small and peaceful. There is a rich supermarket with local products and a small weekly market (every tuesday), there is also a chemist, various bars, a cake shop, bakers, restaurants and pizzerie, banks, shops, post office and a tourist office. The SITA bus is connected with services to Florence and to Empoli by train (here Florence-Pisa line and Empoli-Siena line).

There is no local Taxi service but it can be booked. The airports of Florence and Pisa are easy to reach by car. Many restaurants and inns around here, it is not necessary to reach the town but in summer, it is advisable to reserve. Numerous are the local events and festivities scheduled all year round: first is the “Mostra of the Chianti” (last week of May). Montespertoli is a Municipality of medium dimensions (nearly 13,000 inhabitants) in the province of Florence and it extends on a territory of hills (altitude of the centre 257m.) with an average population density.

Typical is the Florentine landscape in one of the classic areas characterized by colonial houses scattered on extended hills of vines and olive trees. Today, many of these houses have become holiday residences for people who prefer to take a break from the city chaos. An ancient characteristic of these places is above all the road vocation: this is testified by mediaeval roads like Via Francigena or Romea that, resuming a more ancient route, connected Europe with Rome, and Via Volterrana that connected Florence to Volterra passing through Montespertoli.

It was in mediaeval ages that the most representative buildings of this territory were made, from the parish to castles, to the villages perched on hills and connected by the road network. Starting from the chief town, Montespertoli, it is possible to reconstruct some routes of communication, seeing important sites and monuments that are now remarkable works of art.
